Hydrology

Hawai‘i is a state of abundant and diverse freshwater resources. SOEST researchers and students study the watershed systems of the islands and the associated management of water as a resource, explore the geology that constrains the freshwater lenses beneath the islands, measure and track the discharge of submarine ground water through cracks and fissures in the islands, and model hydrologic systems in Hawai‘i, the insular Pacific, and beyond.
