SOEST Dean’s Undergraduate Scholarship
Available to both incoming and existing undergraduates majoring in Global Environmental Science (GES), Earth Sciences, and Atmospheric Sciences. Applicants must have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or greater and demonstrate some level of financial need. The$1,000 award is made annually, for up to four years.

All full-time undergraduates enrolled at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Hilo, Maui College, one of the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges, and the University of Guam are eligible to apply for HSGC URI Group Research Internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be sponsored by a mentor who is willing to guide the students for the duration of the award. HSGC URI Group Research Internship students are expected to work between 5 and 10 hours a week during the semester depending on their project.

All full-time undergraduates enrolled at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, Hilo, Maui College, one of the University of Hawai‘i Community Colleges, and University of Guam who have declared a major are eligible to apply for HSGC URI Research Internships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be sponsored by a mentor who is willing to guide the student for the duration of the award. Most mentors are faculty at the University but senior researchers or other qualified personnel at UH or elsewhere are eligible. HSGC URI Research Internship students are expected to work between 10 and 15 hours a week during the semester depending on their project.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students at the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB). Scholarship support can be used to assist with cost of attendance (tuition, books, fees), funding for research, supplies, etc.
The prospective recipient must be a Hawaii resident and a graduate of a public Hawai‘i high school, enrolled full-time as upper division undergraduate students (junior or senior) and/or graduate students pursuing studies at the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology.

Sarp M. Kayan Undergraduate Scholarship
Applicant must be a full-time student, sophomore or higher with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. Applicants must submit a letter describing their relationship to Hawai‘i, their interest in oceanography and how they will use the degree in oceanography.

Fernando Gabriel Leonida Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Leonida family and friends in memory of Mr. Fernando Gabriel Leonida and his lifetime contributions to the commercial fishing industry and the Waikīkī Aquarium. Preference is given to students with a focus on commercial fisheries. Student must submit a statement or essay describing interests and activities in the development or maintenance of ocean resources, including but not limited to commercially exploitable fishes. Scholarship is open to international students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
