Advancing solutions to solve current and future energy needs of the state and the nation is both an urgent requirement and a complex task. Solutions are often capital intensive with long lead times and have the risk of unintended consequences. Development of technologies, strategies, and policies that will have significant positive impact on the state energy mix requires the integration of analysis, research, engineering, economics, and policy.
Experts from across SOEST, and staff teams within the Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) develop, test, and evaluate novel renewable energy solutions and supporting technologies, and build public-private partnerships to demonstrate real-world integration of solutions onto energy grids.
