Sea Grant Community Extension
The University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program (UH Sea Grant) works for the people of Hawai‘i.
It funds targeted, leading-edge research on the challenges and opportunities facing our coastal communities. Extension faculty apply the results of this research to improve our quality of life, now and for future generations.
Private gifts support many programs that impact our community
- Outreach to keep Hawai‘i safe during natural hazards, including authoring and distributing over 50,000 copies of the Homeowners Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards.
- Protecting our environment by educating over one million people each year about coral reefs, marine mammals and sea turtles in our Hanauma Bay Education Program.
- Empowering local Hawai‘i communities to manage their own nearshore resources leading to local bans on collecting wild fish for the aquarium trade.
- Promotion of sustainable energy and water use in buildings through testing and application of new technologies.
