The 4th CIMAR Symposium was held in the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Campus Center Ballrooms on November 20, 2024. CIMAR’s mission is to promote and facilitate research necessary for understanding and predicting environmental change in the Pacific Islands Region, for conserving and managing coastal and marine resources in island environments, notably the Hawaiian Islands and the U.S.-affiliated Pacific Islands, and for supporting the region’s economic, social, and environmental needs. In addition to research conducted at the University of Hawai‘i, CIMAR collaborates verry closely with the NOAA Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) and the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM) office at the Inouye Regional Center (IRC). The Fourth CIMAR Symposium provided an opportunity for the UH and NOAA research communities to come together for synergistic discussions on topics of mutual interest. The theme of the Symposium was “Climate and Communities”

The Symposium explored the impact of climate change on many of the interdependent communities of living organisms in the tropical Pacific, ranging for example from deep sea food webs to coastal human societies, including biological, chemical and physical impacts of Earth’s changing climate.
