Facilities

The UH Marine Center is located at Pier 35 in Honolulu Harbor. Facilities at the pier include the Marine Center offices, laboratories that support marine operations and research, 25,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space, 800’ of pier space for large vessels and 100,000 sq. ft. of outside storage space for containers and weatherproof equipment. An additional 65,500 sq. ft. of outside storage space is available at the Marine Center’s Sand Island yard. This facility is located adjacent to the Honolulu Community College’s Marine Education Training Center (METC) at 10 Sand Island Parkway. The UH Marine Center also has access to a small boat dock at METC, which is well suited for personnel transfers and equipment loading.

Warehouse space for working on equipment
    • For approved mobilization prior to a cruise, a 20’ x 10’ space will be made available without charge for up to two weeks prior to a cruise. The same space can be made available without charge for up to 3 days after a cruise.
    • For other work, a 20’ x 10’ space will cost $75/day ($0.375/sq.ft.) for each day of use. Larger space can be provided if it is available and will be charged at the same cost per sq. ft.
Laydown space in the Pier 35 and Sand Island yards
    • Workspace at UHMC’s Pier 35 and Sand Island facilities can be made available to groups affiliated with UH. The cost for that space is $0.92/sq.ft. per year. An annual inventory of space usage is conducted in July and invoices are issued at that time. For container storage, this equates to $150/year for a 20’ container and $300/year for a 40’ container.

To inquire about storage, pier space for UNOLS vessels or small boats, and harbor usage policies, contact the Marine Operations Superintendent.
