Seminar: Unlocking Opportunity with Data Science – Digital Twin for Deep Water Jumper VIV and Beyond

25 November 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Haining Zheng, Ph.D.
Advanced Research Data Scientist
Data Analytics Group, Modelling & Optimization, MST, PTD
ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company

As Data Science advances and increasingly large amounts of data become readily available via various Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) projects, the energy industry is going through massive digital transformation to unlock enormous opportunities. In this talk, I will first give an overview of Data Science at energy companies, especially ExxonMobil, and then I will talk over three case studies of digital transformation in Energy Industry (1) Manufacturing Data Lake– efficient access to global manufacturing data (2) DEEVA: a deep learning and IoT based computer vision system to address safety and security of production sites in energy industry and (3) Advancing from predictive maintenance to intelligent maintenance with AI and IIoT. Finally, a deep dive of our research on Digital Twin for Deep Water Jumper VIV Fatigue Assessment will be discussed in details. The fatigue assessment approach gives a systematic methodology to address jumper VIV fatigue problems and provides an important design basis for future projects as we move to frontier Ultra-Deepwater to shape the future of energy detection and recovery.
