WHOTS Mooring

Our next destination is the WHOTS mooring (located on the edge of Station ALOHA). The mooring is switched out annually, alternating between two different locations. The buoy is outfitted with meteorological instrumentation and the mooring line is instrumented in order to collect time series of upper ocean temperatures, velocities, and salinities . A yo-yo CTD cast is regularly conducted near the mooring during HOT cruises to help calibrate some of these moored instruments.
