Inga, Mireya
Mireya has an extensive background in nonprofit operations and administration, primarily in youth and student-oriented organizations. Before joining the Department of Oceanography in 2018 as an APT (and subsequently an Administrative Officer), she worked for GEO 3550, the labor union representing graduate student workers at the University of Michigan. Here, she helped navigate the organization’s fiscal response to Michigan’s Right to Work legislation and was part of the team to ensure the union could continue representing its members with drastically reduced income.
Prior to that, Mireya did work as a volunteer manager for a youth hospice program, a marketing and admissions director for an independent school, an operations manager for a homeless youth advocacy organization, and as a caseworker for an agency serving children with developmental disabilities. She is passionate about supporting young people, students, and lifelong learners, and has found that higher education allows her to utilize her skills while staying true to this passion.
Mireya holds a BA in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. In her free time, she loves exploring the world with her partner and their children, reading historical fiction, and very poorly playing the piano.
