THE BREAKTHROUGHS: UEHIRO & OCEANOGRAPHY YEARLY SYMPOSIUM (BUOYS)

The Breakthroughs: Uehiro & Oceanography Yearly Symposium (BUOYS) is a student-run two-day symposium that includes lightning and full-length research talks by graduate students in the Department of Oceanography graduate program across all three divisions (Biological, Physical, and Marine Geology and Geochemical Oceanography). The program also includes a student-organized professional development workshop with a panel of representatives from careers across the marine sciences, and a community building workshop. Each day culminates in a pau hana where researchers, professors, and students mingle and talk-story about their research interests. The first pau hana also showcases posters presented by undergraduate students in the Department of Oceanography. The theme of this year’s symposium is “From local to global: navigating the scales of oceanography”. The event is funded by the Uehiro Center for the Advancement of Oceanography.
