Gabrielle Ellis & Lucia Leong

We are thrilled to celebrate Gabrielle Ellis, who recently defended her dissertation—a remarkable achievement in her academic journey! This milestone was made possible in part by the Lucia and Gregory Leong Oceanography Graduate Student Fellowship, which provided Gabrielle with the crucial support needed to dedicate the past two years to groundbreaking research in oceanography.

The impact of this fellowship extends far beyond individual success, as it also fuels innovation, empowers emerging scholars, and strengthens the future of oceanographic research. The Department of Oceanography sincerely thanks Lucia Leong for her generosity and unwavering commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders, researchers, and changemakers.

Gabrielle’s research on the biogeography of abyssal larvae and the ecological impact of mineral mining is a shining example of the transformative work taking place at School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Department of Oceanography. We are truly grateful for the Lucia’s support, which helps make such vital research possible.

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Lucia Leong for her generous investment in our graduate students and a huge congratulations to Gabrielle Ellis on this incredible accomplishment!
