Artifact History: After extensive testing in pursuing Pancho Villa around Mexico, the US Army shipped 51 new FWD trucks to Hawaii in 1917 to form the first motor truck regiment. These vehicles replaced horses that were previously being used to haul artillery guns, ordnance, and supplies.
Artifact Condition: Truck has 4 metal disc wheels with rubber tread. Some of the engine is missing, but the framework is present. Radiator is missing. The exhaust is directly behind where the radiator would mount and on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Additional Information: The FWD Mod B's were built by the Four Wheel Drive Auto Company in Clintonville Wisconsin. The Mod B's were used well into the 50's and parts were available into the 60's. They had top speed of 16 mpg and a 30 gal fuel capacity. The wheel base was 124" and the wheels themselves were 36" with 6" wide rubber tread. 6300 lbs (new)
