Artifact History: |
After extensive testing in pursuing Pancho Villa around Mexico, the US Army shipped 51 FWD trucks to Hawaii in 1917 to form the first motor truck regiment. These vehicles replaced horses that were previously being used to haul artillery guns, ordnance, and supplies. |

Artifact Condition: |
Vehicle chassis and wheels are complete along with most of the cab arrangement. The wheels have the angular type rims with the metal spokes and an inner ring. The rubber tread is also present. |
Additional Information: |
The wheels would have originally been wooden, but they did not hold up well especially in Hawaii's climate. FWD could not keep up with demand, so they contracted out to wheelwrights. There were four types of wheels, wooden spokes, metal disc, round metal spokes, and angular metal spokes. 6300 lbs |
