Don\u2019t accept them as \u201cthe way things are.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A hostile workplace or classroom is against school policy. Report it!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are not to blame.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ignoring inappropriate behavior only perpetuates the problem: there are laws that were written to protect you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If possible, ask the individual who is doing the harassing to stop, verbally or in writing. The victim does not have to be of a different sex.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The harasser can be the victim\u2019s supervisor, an agent of the employer, a supervisor in another area, a co-worker, a subordinate, or a non-employee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The victim does not have to be the person harassed but could be anyone affected by offensive conduct.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unlawful sexual harassment may occur without economic injury to or discharge of the victim.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The harasser\u2019s conduct must be unwelcome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sexual harassment comes in many forms, each of which is prohibited by law. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitutes sexual harassment when submission to or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual&#8217;s employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual\u2019s work performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment is illegal whether it occurs in the workplace or within an educational setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Title IX is a landmark federal civil rights law that prohibits sex discrimination in education, and it\u2019s not just about sports. It addresses discrimination against pregnant and parenting students, women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs, sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination, and sexual violence. Sexual violence includes attempted or completed rape or sexual assault, as well as sexual harassment, stalking, voyeurism, exhibitionism, verbal or physical sexuality-based threats or abuse, and intimate partner violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Title IX protects every person \u2014 female, male, transgender, and gender non-conforming students, faculty, and staff \u2014 from any sex-based discrimination, harassment, or violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a name=\"bullying\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is bullying?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bullying is a type of workplace violence that violates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/policy\/?action=viewPolicy&amp;policySection=ep&amp;policyChapter=9&amp;policyNumber=210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UH Executive Policy E9.210.<\/a> Prohibited violent acts involve physical attack, property damage, and verbal statements and tones that express or suggest the intent to cause physical or mental harm to another person. More specifically, violent behaviors include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hitting, pushing, and shoving;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Throwing or breaking objects;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theft;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shouting or yelling, abusive or belligerent language;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Threatening gestures or remarks;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disruptive or hostile actions, sabotage of equipment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repetitive unwanted phone calls, notes or emails, and other unwelcome aggressive behavior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&lt;Spacer Text&gt; UH M\u0101noa Office of Title IX UH M\u0101noa Campus Security Jump to: Are you being harassed or bullied?
