HIMB Science Inquiry Education Program
Working primarily with high school level students and classes, as well as with recent graduates and early undergraduates, our mission is to create educational pathways for the next generation of Hawai‘i’s ocean scientists, managers, and stewards. HIMB offers innovative education programming including inquiry-based field trips to Moku o Lo‘e, summer training courses, research lab internships, and a telepresence technology program to explore the coral reef habitats of Kāne‘ohe Bay.

Every year SOEST participates in the Discover UH Mānoa Open House which everyone is open to the public. Thousands of students, individuals and families visit the UH Mānoa campus to learn more about the research and academic opportunities at SOEST and try hands-on activities.

The Eyes of the Reef Network (EOR) is a group of community volunteers, led by SOEST faculty and researchers, focused on proviiding reliable reports on bleaching, disease, and Crown-of-Thorn Seastar outbreaks throughout Hawai‘i.

Ocean Aware Hawai‘i works to enhance awareness and promote responsible use and increased stewardship of Hawai‘i’s marine and coastal resources through Ocean Awareness Training (OAT), which combines classroom learning with hands-on stewardship experiences.
