Search advisory committee selected for SOEST Director of Diversity Initiatives

The UH Mānoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) has formally initiated the search for the inaugural SOEST Director of Diversity Initiatives. The search advisory committee reporting to the SOEST Dean’s Office has been established to start the search process.
SOEST Director of Research Vessel Operations and Interim Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Anita Lopez and Oceanography Assistant Professor Phil Thompson will participate and serve as co-chairs of the search advisory committee, whose members are as follows:

The Director of Diversity Initiatives will be responsible for coordinating policies and strategies that cultivate a respectful, diverse, and collaborative environment in SOEST, and for assisting our journey toward becoming a Native Hawaiian place of learning. This position will help enhance educational, research and employment experiences at SOEST by providing a welcoming and respectful environment that embraces diversity and promotes a culture of equity, openness and inclusion for all students, postdocs, staff, faculty and visitors.
The search committee’s first meeting will be held this week.
