Save the Date! Fourth Symposium of the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research

Climate change affects all aspects of the world’s biota. The theme of the 4th CIMAR Symposium will be “Climate and Communities”, where “communities” is used in the broader sense of all interdependent living organisms within CIMAR’s research and applications portfolios in the tropical Pacific. The Symposium welcomes discussion of work exploring the impact of climate change on any of the interdependent communities of living organisms in the tropical Pacific, ranging from deep sea food webs to coastal human societies, and including biological, chemical and physical impacts.

The Symposium is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, 8:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m., UH Manoa Campus Center Ballroom. Oral and poster sessions are being planned for the one-day event. Presenters will be a mix of CIMAR researchers, NOAA federal staff, UH faculty and students, and outside experts, in order to further the overarching CIMAR goal of cross-fertilization of ideas among these often-dissociated groups. Please start thinking about how your research can contribute to the event, and we’ll keep you updated on the planning. Students are welcome. Please direct questions to Doug Luther, CIMAR Director (dluther@hawaii.edu).

Past symposia have been well attended, with oral presentations from the last symposium being live-streamed, recorded and posted with permission (see the 2019 Symposium here: https://www.soest.hawaii.edu/cimar/?page_id=1700).
