Geology Rocks the American Cancer Society Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer. Uniting communities across the globe, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. Our club makes no profit from Relay For Life, but the community will profit tremendously from your help.

How can you help?

Join the Geology Rocks team! Not only do we have a super punny team name, we also have a great team! You are the only thing we’re missing. Go to http://main.acsevents.org/goto/GeologyRocks to our team page and click the “Join Our Team” button. You will have to create an account, but you do not have to pay or donate to register. Feel free to share this link with anyone who might want to join us. Teammates do not have to be members of UH Geophysical Society or the UH community to join!

Make a donation. Money raised from Relay For Life events can make a HUGE impact on cancer research and saves millions of lives. Every single dollar raised gets us closer to freeing the world from the pain and suffering from cancer. When you support our fundraising efforts, you’re helping to save lives. Go to http://main.acsevents.org/goto/GeologyRocks to go to the Geology Rocks Relay page and click on the “Donate” button. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, and anonymous donations are allowed.

Here’s how the American Cancer Society uses donations to help save lives.

  • Supporting innovative cancer research, lifesaving screenings, and treatment.
  • Offering 24/7 Lifeline for free, comprehensive cancer information, patient navigators, health insurance information, clinical trial matching, or just a friendly ear.
  • Providing crucial patient care programs like Hope Lodge® offers patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when treatment is far from home.

Dedicate a luminaria ($5). The track we walk (around TC Ching Field) is lined with luminarias that light up after dark. These luminarias honor loved ones lost, lives currently touched by cancer, and everyone who’s overcome this disease. Each luminaria is decorated with names and messages to the ones we love. If there’s someone you know whose life has been touched by cancer, consider dedicating a luminaria in their name. Please e-mail Elizabeth Benyshek (benyshek@hawaii.edu) if you’re interested in dedicating a luminaria.

Share your story. Relay For Life is more than a fundraiser; it’s an event that brings the whole community together to prove that we will not let cancer win. It’s also a time when we honor survivors and remember loved ones lost. We will be making a collage to display at the event with pictures and stories about loved ones, family members and friends who have battled cancer. When you share your story, you inspired others. Please share your story with us. Send your pictures and/or stories to mecamero@hawaii.edu before April 1.

Come to the event! Saturday, April 8, from 5:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. at TC Ching Field on lower campus. All are welcome!

If you have any questions or would like to dedicate a luminara, please e-mail Elizabeth Benyshek, VP of UH Geophysical Society and co-captain for the annual Relay For Life fundraiser, at benyshek@hawaii.edu. Thank you!
