It is located at 5\u00b052\u2032N 162\u00b06\u2032W, 61 km (33 nautical miles) south of Kingman Reef, and lies in the center of the Line Island chain. Palmyra\u2019s administrative status is unique in that it is owned by a private organization, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.org\/wherewework\/asiapacific\/palmyra\/\">The Nature Conservancy<\/a>,\u00a0but administered by the Office of Insular Affairs, DOI.
