Presenter: Dr. Dax Matthews
Title: The CEFI regional physical–biogeochemical ocean modeling and prediction system for support of marine resource management
NOAA’s Changing Ecosystems and Fisheries Initiative (CEFI) aims to build a regional ocean modeling and prediction system to support marine resource management across all U.S. coastlines. In this talk, I will introduce the structure and goals of CEFI, present the configurations of the regional MOM6-based coupled ocean–sea ice–biogeochemistry models, and discuss the first generation of model products. I will also share how to access CEFI model output and outline next steps and future plans for the initiative. Finally, I will discuss the development and evaluation of the CEFI model for the Pacific Islands region, encompassing the main Hawaiian Islands, Papahānaumokuākea, and Johnston Atoll, highlighting key lessons learned and future directions.
