Evaluation of a New Warm-Rain Scheme in WRF, FV-3, and MPAS

ABSTRACT

A new warm-rain scheme (RCON), a modification of Thompson microphysics, has been developed and is being tested in real-time using the WRF, FV-3, and MPAS dynamical cores. This presentation will describe the promising initial results and will review ongoing research in applying the new scheme for warm-rain events in Hawaii and Alaska.
