| Artifact History: | 18 PK-1's were built. Two crashed at sea (A8515 & A8516). All 18 were assigned to Squadron VP-1 (formerly VF-1). 13 were on inventory in 1938. They were replaced with 15 PBY's in 1939. Squadron conducted a number of war game exercises at French Frigate Shoals and Midway Island in the mid thirties. | ||||
| Artifact Condition: | Wings are missing, but overall in excellent condition. Far better than any of the other known aircrafts of it's type. Fuselage is whole with the exception of the tail flaps and rudder. Squadron numbers are visible on the side. Elephant logo is discernable but mostly covered. Cockpits have windshields present. | ||||
| Additional Information: | All other known planes of this type are located in the Defensive Sea Area. It is unknown why this one is considerably further away and in deeper water. One possibility is it may be one of two aircraft lost operationally. There is other debris in further away and in deeper water. One possibility is it may be one of two aircraft lost operationally.
