During the recent American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in San Francisco (Dec 11 to Dec 15), our lab had a strong presence with five group members in attendance. Bin Chen, Meryem Berrada, Siheng Chen, Juliana Peckenpaugh, and Keng-Hsien Chao all presented their research findings at the conference. Furthermore, Drs. Bin Chen, Meryem Berrada, and Siheng Chen convened a total of three sessions.
The last group meeting before the AGU Fall Meeting, featuring delightful cupcakes with a Solar System theme skillfully crafted by Postdoctoral Fellow Meryem Berrada. Our group enjoyed these treats following the capture of a memorable group photo for 2023. Great job, everybody!
Dr. Yoshiyuki Okuda joins the mineral physics group as a Postdoctoral Fellow, with joint support from JSPS Fellowship and NASA grant.
Dr. Bin Chen is promoted to Researcher/Professor at Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Alan McFall joined the mineral physics laboratory as a M.S. graduate student. Welcome Alan!
Dr. Siheng Wang joined the mineral physics laboratory. Welcome Siheng!
Dr. Meryem Berrada joined the mineral physics laboratory. Welcome, Meryem!
Juliana Peckenpaugh joined the mineral physics laboratory as a Ph.D. graduate student. Welcome Juliana!
Graduate student Keng-Hsien Chao passed his candidacy exam. Congratulations!
To trace the volatile elements that form the atmospheres of planets, NASA’s Astrobiology Program awarded a five-year, $5-million grant to an interdisciplinary consortium, including researchers at the University of Hawaiʻi. The award will help establish a scientific foundation for detecting the signatures of life on other worlds. Dr. Bin Chen is a Co-PI of the project.
Recent news and events about the research we do and the members in our mineral physics laboratory. Keep tuned.
