Subject: volcanic ashes and mud flows

Is there anything countries like Indonesia and the Philippines can do with the tremendous amounts of volcanic deposits they are inudated with? What can you do with cubic kilometers of lahar deposits?

These deposits form great soils (once they have cooled down). Some could be used for low weight aggregate for construction (once the stones are removed). Lithified deposits (welded during cooling) have been used for building blocks in many poorer countires. It is easy to excavate and trim. Ultimately, there is probably too much of it to deal with or to make money selling to others countries.
