Local wave model for the Hawaiian Islands region :

Island of Oahu, forced in real time by the local buoys

Island of Oahu, forced by the output of Wave Watch III

Main hawaiian islands (from Kauaii to Big Island), forced by the output of Wave Watch III

Oahu experimental wave model (initialized with UH Waimea and Kailua buoys)

wave model
This model is an output the
SWAN wave model (Simulating WAves Nearshore). The grid points are 500 meters apart (~1500 feet).
The bathymetry is from NOS data.
The wave input on the western and northern boundary is provided by the Waimea Bay buoy, the wave input on the eastern boundary is provided by the Kailua Bay buoy. The model is running on a LINUX powered PC, plots are generated with matlab.

Oahu experimental wave model (initialized with WW3 output)

This model is an output the SWAN wave model (Simulating WAves Nearshore). The grid points are 500 meters apart (~1500 feet).
The bathymetry is from NOS data.
The wave input on the western, eastern and northern boundary is provided by the WaveWatch3 wave model output, at point HNL10 (-157.75 W, 22 N) and the wave input at the southern boundary is provided by the WaveWatch3 wave model output, at point HNL11 (-158.25 W, 21 N).
The model is running on a LINUX powered PC, plots are generated with matlab.

All the time on the plots are in Hawaiian Standart Time, the hourly lags are relative to the  time of the latest WW3 run (time of the latest run is in UTC). Plots show the significant wave height, and the mean wave direction

Hawaiian Islands experimental wave model (initialized with WW3 output)

This model is an output the SWAN wave model (Simulating WAves Nearshore). The grid points are 800 meters apart (~1/2 mile).

Comments:

While the first model only provides a regional hindcast of waves around O'ahu, the 2 next products will allow regional forecasts for up to 5 days (because they are initialized by another wave model and not real buoy data).
