To view an arbitrarily oriented vertical slice, you must currently be viewing a z-slice. Typing "z" on the graphics screen while viewing a z-slice allows you to define the location for the vertical slice. After typing "z", click and release the left mouse button to define one end point of the slice. A yellow rubberband line will extend from this location. Click the left mouse button again to define the other end of the vertical slice. It doesn't matter which plane number (i.e., which value of k) you are viewing when you do this.
