mrslice
mrslice (pronounced "Mr. Slice", or if you prefer, "Mrs. Lice") is an interactive program for slicing and viewing 3-D (and 2-D) FAST-formatted files. It will also work with 2-D GMT grd files (provided that x_inc = y_inc, i.e., the cell size must, as with FAST files, be square). You can also view unformatted, binary, direct-access files (such as the files used in the tomography codes of John Hole). mrslice is written in Fortran and requires the freely available,
easy to install
PGPLOT
graphics subroutine library.
Mr. Slice is designed mainly to allow the rapid and interactive display of FAST files, without having to resort to plotting using GMT, or the somewhat crude program "zslice", which is included with the FAST distribution.
Some of the things you can do with mrslice:
- Rapid viewing of files. Immediately plot 2-D (e.g., bathymetry or interface files) or any slice through a 3-D files (e.g., velocity models, time files, difference files).
- For 3-D models, view slices perpendicular to the x, y or z axes, or view arbitrarily located vertical slices.
- Create a 2-D line plot of data in a z-slice (i.e., a slice perpendiular to the z axis) and dump the 2-D data.
- Zoom in for a closer look.
- Create postscript plots of any slice.
- Convert the data in any slice into a GMT grd file for plotting with GMT.
- Quickly find the global maximum and minimum value of the file and the maximum and minimum value of the currently plotted slice.
- Contour the data.
- Overlay lines and points (contained in separate data files) on top of a z-slice.
- Dump 1-D profiles.
- View 2-D GMT grd files. Requires that the x and y grid size be equal for proper scaling of the vertical axis.
- View 2-D and 3-D direct-access, binary files.
- And more...
