•Use fully shielded fixtures that direct light toward the ground.  Lower wattage bulbs can be used which saves on electricity costs.

•Use compact fluorescent bulbs, which use approximately 25% less energy than incandescent bulbs.

•Use motion sensors instead of leaving outdoor lights on at night.

•Use the right amount of light for the task.

•Light the subject and hide the source.

•Follow the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) minimum recommended levels, and strive for low-impact lighting.
