Volunteer Training

Training is provided to all HBEP Volunteers to insure that individual volunteers are well-versed in the basics of reef ecology, the natural and cultural history of the site, and thevolunteer with lifeguard specific regulations governing the use of Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. Volunteers need to be able to answer visitor questions regarding these issues and provide accurate information in a thoughtful and helpful manner.

While some volunteer positions, such as Interpretive Guide and Program Docent, require a more lengthy training, it is important for all volunteers to understand the basic purpose and philosophy of HBEP, the organization their service is helping to support. Even "behind-the-scenes" volunteers, those providing clerical and maintenance support, will occasionally interact with the public and need to be able to answer visitor questions.
