Frequently Asked Questions

What is the target audience for this workshop?
Workshop materials are geared for teachers of science in grades 6-8; high school teachers are also encouraged to apply. Pre-service teachers pursuing post-baccalaureate certification (or MS) training in the Institute for Teacher Education are particularly encouraged to attend.

Will teachers be paid?
Teachers will receive stipends of $170/day. All workshop materials will be provided.

When will the workshops be held?
The summer 2012 workshop will be held July 16-19 on the UH Manoa Campus (POST building).

Are off-island teachers permitted to attend?
Teachers from other islands may apply, but travel and accommodation support are not available.

What is expected of me?
Teachers maintain a reflections notebook on each day of the workshop to be handed in at the end. Teacher learning will be evaluated using formative and summative assessments. Teachers will be asked to help assess student learning in 2012-2013 school year as a result of their participation in the workshop.
