BEWARE OF SCAM TARGETING PEOPLE ADVERTISING RENTALS

Please be alert for an email scam where the email is not specifically addressed to you and is from someone who says they want to rent something they don’t describe, at unspecified dates, sight unseen, and are eager to pay in advance.

An advertiser reports, “This is an international scam, like the Nigerian Oil Scam, run out of London by Africans. They get your name and e-mail from on line ads including Craig's List and then send you several thousand dollars in travelers checks or cashier's check. They then a few days later tell you an emergency has come up and they can not rent your place, but to show their good faith they let you keep the several thousand dollars and just ask for a "few hundred" back. You send them "real " money and cash the travelers checks which turn out to be real but stolen. Then the FBI comes and arrests you. I have had 3 such inquiries this week.”

VISIT THE THRIFT SHOP ON MANOA CAMPUS! Located opposite the Credit Union at the end of East-West Road. There is a wide variety of items including toys, fabrics, infant clothing & supplies, men’s & women’s clothing, books & magazines, audio & video tapes, kitchen stuff, small appliances, and small items of furniture. Scheduled hours are Tuesday 10 AM- 1 PM and Thursday noon to 3. Additionally, END OF MONTH SALE on the LAST Saturday of the month when the Shop is open from 9:00 to noon and everything is half off. Parking validated for a one hour shopping spree. All proceeds from the Thrift Shop are awarded as grants to University programs and projects.
