Implementing SSL in Microsoft Outlook 2007/2010

Select File, then the Account Settings button.
This will pop up a window summarizing your email accounts.
Select the relevant email account and select Change.

 E-Mail Address
  Your SOEST email address
 Incoming mail server
  Your SOEST email server
 Outgoing mail server
  smtp-server.soest.hawaii.edu
 Logon Information
  SOEST username / Password

Ensure that "Require logon using secure password authentication (SPA)" is NOT checked.

Select More Settings; then the Advanced tab.


 Incoming Server
 993 (imap)  /  995 (pop3)
 Encrypted connection
  SSL
 Outgoing Server
  465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)
 Encrypted connection
  SSL or TLS (depending on port choice above)

Select the Outgoing Server tab, ensure that
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
is selected. 

When done, click OK
