Email Incoming and Outgoing Server Information

Note: This is for SOEST email accounts only. Instructions on setting up a hawaii.edu account are available here.

SOEST incoming mail servers are associated with office location.

Building Incoming Server

If your computer never leaves the SOEST network, you can use the same server for both incoming and outgoing.

Otherwise, if you access SOEST email from outside the SOEST network, you should setup a secure outgoing connection through our SMTP authentication server, smtp-server.soest.hawaii.edu

Implementing SSL in Mac Mail

Incoming
Select Mail --> Preferences --> the Advanced tab.
Select the check box to enable SSL.

Return to the Account Information tab
Click on Outgoing Mail Server menu and edit your SMTP server list.
Navigate to Advanced Tab
add server smtp-server.soest.hawaii.edu
select Use Default Ports and select use Secure Socket Layers. (SSL).

Implementing SSL in Windows Live mail

Select the Accounts tab at top of window, then click on the Properties menu item.
Select the Servers tab in the Properties window

   Select "Log on using clear text authentication"

Implementing SSL in Microsoft Outlook 2007/2010

Select File, then the Account Settings button.
This will pop up a window summarizing your email accounts.
Select the relevant email account and select Change.

Ensure that "Require logon using secure password authentication (SPA)" is NOT checked.

Select More Settings; then the Advanced tab.

Select the Outgoing Server tab, ensure that

Implementing SSL in Microsoft Outlook 2003

Select Tools, then Email Accounts.
Choose "View or change existing email accounts" and click next.
Select the relevant email account and select Change.
Ensure that "Require Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is unchecked
Set your Outgoing mail server (SMTP) as smtp-server.soest.hawaii.edu
Select More Settings, then select the Outgoing Server tab in the new window

 Check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
 Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server."

Select the Advanced tab.

Select Tools then Accounts Select your email account and click Properties

Implementing SSL in Android Mail

    On your phone, press < Home >, then open the Email application.
    On Your accounts page, select Next to get started with setup.
    Enter your full SOEST address and password, then select Next.
    You can give the account a nickname and choose the name to display on your outgoing messages.
    Tap Done.

You can verify your settings from the Inbox view by tapping < Menu > Account settings.

Go to the Settings Menu
Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Tap on Add Account
Select Other
Select Add Mail Account
Enter your Name, Email Address and Password
