How
do I set up the network printer(s) for Win 95/98?
Note:
The computer must have an existing TCP/IP connection for the following
procedure to work.
- Open
the Networking icon in Control Panel.

- Under
the Configuration tab, highlight the TCP/IP
protocol, and select the Properties button. If
there are more than one TCP/IP protocols, apply the
following steps to all of them, EXCEPT for the TCP/IP ->
Dial-Up Adapter.

Select the WINS Configuration tab.

Because
of the multiple versions of Windows 9x, the WINS Configuration
screen will vary. Please follow the instructions for the
corresponding screen on your computer. |
- Click
next to Enable WINS Resolution and add the numbers
128.171.159.14 in the Primary WINS Server or WINS
Server Search Order box as shown. For Ex.1, leave the
Secondary WINS Server and Scope ID
box blank and press OK twice to save the changes.
For Ex.2, make sure that you type the numbers in the top box (the one
with the dots in them) and select the Add button.
The numbers should then appear in the second box. Leave the Scope
ID box blank and press the OK twice
to save the changes.

- Windows
will now ask for the WIN 95/98 disk. When it is done, it will
ask if you wish to restart. Select Yes.
- After
the computer restarts click on the Start button and
select Run.
- Type
the following in the Open box: \\bambam and select OK.

- Select
the printer that you want to print to, right-click, and select install.
- The
Add Printer Wizard will ask if you print from MS-DOS based programs.
Answer accordingly and select Next.
- The
computer will now require a driver for the particular printer that was
chosen. If the driver already exists on the computer then skip
to step 12. (i.e. Select Keep existing driver
and select Next).

- To
install the driver, select the manufacturer and the model of the desired
printer and press Next. If you have any problems
or do not know which manufacturer and/or model to select, please contact
support@soest.hawaii.edu.

- The
Add Printer Wizard will now ask for a printer name. We suggest
using the default name, but you may change it if you wish. It
also asks if this printer will be consider the default printer for all
Windows based programs. If this printer is the only one you will
be using then select Yes. If you plan to use
multiple printers, then select Yes for the printer
that will get the most use. Then press Next.

Lastly, you will be asked if you wish to print a test page. This
is not necessary. Select Finish.
