PODS VII: Eligibility

Applications Due by 23 April 2012!

Participation in the PODS symposium is by invitation only to applicants who have completed a dissertation concerning an important problem in ocean physics. Dissertations must have been completed after 30 June 2011, or applicants must provide certification from their Department Chair or Dean that they will complete their degree by 1 July 2013.

WE REGRET THAT WE CAN’T ACCEPT APPLICATIONS IF DISSERTATIONS WERE COMPLETED OUTSIDE OF THESE DATES.

The deadline to apply is 23 April 2012. Application materials should be emailed to: PODS@soest.hawaii.edu. For any questions or problems with the application process, please contact Karen Selph, PODS@soest.hawaii.edu.

The PODS Selection Committee will review the applications and invitations will be issued by 15 June 2012. Because of the limited number of available spaces, and the high number of applications usually received, the Selection Committee has to make difficult choices as to whom to invite. Selection of speakers will be made principally on the basis of the scientific content of the thesis as judged from the attached abstract. The committee will attempt to select topics that reflect the scientific balance of the sponsoring agencies’ programs in physical oceanography. If necessary, the committee reserves the right to solicit additional application material and to consider such factors as programmatic and geographic balance.
