Ta‘u is part of the Manu‘a Island group in the U.S. Territory of American Samoa, situated approximately 150 km northeast of Tutuila and 20 km east of Olosega. Ta‘u is an extremely steep volcanic island with almost no surrounding banks; the seafloor surrounding Ta‘u drops steeply to abyssal depths. Between Olosega and Ta‘u lies an unnamed submerged volcanic ridge and cone that was mapped in 2004 and 2006.
