Necker Island, located at 23° 28’N, 164° 33’W, is about 250 km (155 mi.) northwest of Nihoa. The small (0.17 sq. km) island is surrounded by the second largest marine habitat (1,558 sq. km.) in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Remnants of habitation on Necker are marked by 55 known cultural sites including sites of religious importance and shelters.
