Various ideas that emerged from my attending of the ESC-IPRC workshop (12/09)
- To know where particles found in a sediment trap come from, calculate the backward-in-time trajectories using the 3D-output of a realistic simulation with various sinking speed. Perform the statistics and tell the most likely area of origin.
- Moore’s result and GLM theory applied to the meridional overturning circulation near the equator.
- If eddies or a beam of waves are dissipated in the vertical, does this induce a vertical transport of mass?
- For the “striations”, see Scott et al. (2008) –striations due to preference in the eddy trajectories– and Schlax and CHelton (2008?) due to random westward-propagating eddies.
