The maps of mean kinetic energy of the wave field in the intermediate layer are given in Figs. 1 and 2 for all simulations. We see that for some reason (interference pattern?), the energy of the wave is weaker around 5°E explaining why when we scale the Lagrangian zonal flows with a Vrms deduced from a region centered on 5°E we do not get the same result as when we scale with a Vrms deduced from a region centered on 10°E. The latter Vrms appears to be a better measure of the strength of the wave field (especially given that PV dissipation occurs there).

Figure 2: Mean kinetic energy of the wave field in all simulations forced with 2τ.
Figs. 1 and 2 were done with get_map_Vstd_allexp.m in RESEARCH/MODELISATION/HIM/studies/PV_and_dissipation/forced_damped_wave/exp15 on the main disk on ipu1.
