The Lagrangian analysis is performed for the middle layer of exp4, one of the first two-gyre simulations performed recently.
In this animation, the upper left panel shows the time rate of change of PV due to dissipation as well as the trajectories of 3 parcels. The other panels show the PV change along the trajectory of these parcels.
For these 3 parcels, the PV is balanced for about the first 100 days. After that, some errors appear but, overall, the evolution of PV is still relatively well predicted by the dissipative term.
The animations were produced with anim/anim_script.m in RESEARCH/MODELISATION/HIM/studies/PV_and_dissipation/two_gyre/exp4 on the main disk.
