Larger than expected stock of frozen-in-soil greenhouse gases at polar latitudesΒΆ

In this Nature’s Journal club, Philippe Ciais worries of the larger-than-expected stock of greenhouse gases (carbone dioxide and more worryingly methane) frozen in the soil at polar latitudes. The stock has been recently re-estimated and appears to be nearly double the previous estimation (C. Tarnocai et al. (2009).

This suggests that a closer look to this stock and its potential effect on the climate is needed.
