The MarVEL is located in the Department of Oceanography in the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Our group investigates the ecology and diversity of microbial life in the sea, including human pathogens. We are particularly interested in the diversity of viruses and how viruses influence the ecology and evolution of marine microbial plankton. Members of MarVEL are affiliated with the Center for Microbial Oceanography - Research and Education (C-MORE), the Pacific Research Center for Marine Biomedicine (PRCMB), and the Hawaii Ocean Observing System (HiOOS).
