I have participated in over 25 oceanographic research cruises, which have included work in the Adriatic and Arabian Seas, the Antarctic, and the Arctic and Pacific Oceans aboard large and small oceanographic research vessels and a nuclear submarine. I have also participated in dozens of sampling expeditions in coastal seas and inland water bodies using small boats (25 to 60 ft). In my research I have employed ROVs (Tiburon from MBARI and Jason from WHOI) and I have conducted coastal and blue water SCUBA diving operations. In the past ten years my fieldwork has included small boat work in Mono Lake from (2002-2004), multiple sampling expeditions on small research vessels in Monterey Bay (2005 and 2006), a research expedition to Antarctica (2010), an expedition to sample marine crustal fluids from the deep-subsurface (2013), and the annual planning of, and participation in, 8- to 10-day training expeditions aboard the R/V Kilo Moana, a SWATH vessel based at the University of Hawaii Marine Center (2007-2013).
