Kane'ohe Watershed & Bay Monitoring

Kaneohe Bay is a diverse ecosystem rich in both plant and animal life. The bay is studied from far upstream in the watershed at Luluku Stream through Kamooalii Stream which then joins Kaneohe Stream. Water flows into the bay and passes through suburban to urban developments. Kaneohe Stream water reaches the ocean in the southern end of Kaneohe Bay. Kaneohe Bay is home to Coconut Island UH Marine Biology Research Laboratories. it is also extensively used by thrill sports operators, other small craft and fishing vessels. The bay has also been studied extensively by other researchers such as Dr. Robert Kinzie of UHM Zoology.

During the winter of 2000, two study sites were installed within the Kaneohe Bay Watershed to monitor stage/flow and various components of the water chemistry. The Luluku station rests upstream of the influence of urban Kaneohe. To complement LULU, LKS (lower Kaneohe Stream) was also installed, well within the reach of tidal influence. Results to date are available below.

Luluku - Data
