Picture 2: Group photo at the North Pole! This is the first time that a U.S. ship has gone to the North Pole unaccompanied.

Photo 3: Another GEOTRACES ship from Germany arrived at the North Pole while they were there, and the scientists on each got to walk across the ice floes to meet each other and visit each ship.
