R/V Thomas G. Thompson

After having been granted funding from NSF, a research ship was selected by the US University National Oceanographic Laboratories System (UNOLS) from among several that were appropriate for the work we proposed to do. The research ships of the US academic fleet are scheduled by UNOLS and it is a challenging job for the ship scheduling committee to arrange for all the ships and projects funded for a given year.

We are very pleased to be going to sea with the UNOLS Research Vessel Thomas G. Thompson (affectionately known as "The Thompson". The Thompson is a large (274 ft long) "global-class" UNOLS vessel with the capacity to launch the remotely operated vehicles that we will be using. Details of the ship are available on-line at the Thompson web site.
