Will Sellers What is your job on the ship? Jason's chief pilot. I operate Jason, direct maintenance, and train new pilots. How long have you been doing this? 15 years. Before this I was an Alvin pilot. What is your favorite part of what you do? Going to sea and making the equipment I built and helped design work. What is the least favorite part of your work? Being away from home for such long periods. |

did you get into this field? When I got out of hte Navy the unemployment
office sent me to WHOI.
What are your career goals? This is it. What is the biggest misconception about what you do: People say, "What a cool job you have!" They don't realize what an uphill battle it is every day - 7 days a week, months at a time. What is the most important skill/trait that you rely on? Common sense. What is your most memorable experience from your career? Diving on the Titanic, working around hydrothermal vents. Tell us something about yourself. I am from Cape Cod, but grew up in Boston. Married, no kids. I enjoy camping, travel, and custom wood working. |
