How long have you been doing this? Since 1979.

What is your favorite part of what you do? Interpreting the chemical data to see what it is telling us!

What is the least favorite part of your work? Planning logistics and packing for cruises.

How/why did you get into this field? I fell in love with Earth sciences, especially geology, as an undergraduate when I took an elective course for non-majors. I got into oceanography by accident because I worked on a marine problem for my Ph.D. and was subsequently hired at WHOI.

What are your career goals? To do what I’m doing now.

What is the biggest misconception about what you do: That oceanography = marine biology.
