What is your job on the ship? With some others, I wrote the software which makes Jason work, and also the software that collects and processes the data.

How long have you been doing this? 13 years at DSL, 10 years of related work before that.

What is your favorite part of what you do? Being part of a great team and feeling like I make real contributions to what we do.

What is the least favorite part of your work? Being away from home too much.

How/why did you get into this field? I always wanted to do research and developing and to have a job that let me out of the office.

What are your career goals? Keep on doing what I’m doing, but apply the tools to new problems.

What is the biggest misconception about what you do: That it’s exciting all the time.

What is the most important skill/trait that you rely on? The ability to work hard and multi-task.

What is your most memorable experience from your career? Too many to list or rate – but realizing that the ROV we’d built really worked was a highlight.

Tell us something about yourself. Married, two sons. Hobbies are fitness and outdoor activities.
