What is your job on the ship? Science Technician

How long have you been doing this? 5 days, normally I am an engineer (10 years).

What is your favorite part of what you do? Building systems that are useful to scientists.

What is the least favorite part of your work? None (maybe waking up early for the 8AM to 12 watch).

How/why did you get into this field? Luck. I’ve always been interested in the ocean.

What are your career goals? Use my skills and knowledge to apply technology for use in marine science and oceanography.

What is the biggest misconception about what you do: People think I get to ride around on boats or in submarines. I rarely get to do these things.

What is the most important skill/trait that you rely on? Written and oral communication.

What is your most memorable experience from your career? For my 5 days as a science tech: “flying Jason II.” For my career as an engineer: too many to list.

Tell us something about yourself.I am from Monterey, California. I was born in Palo Alto, California and I am 38. I am single, have no children, 2 pets (1 dog, 1 cat).
